Addressed in this issue of DeerTracks is the important theme of aligning with Grandmother Earth and protecting her resources by creating sustainable lifestyles. Although no one can know with certainty what the year 2000 and subsequent years will bring, scientists are predicting an intensifying of earth changes and cosmic phenomena like solar storms, planetary alignment, and a shift in the earth's magnetic poles. Prophecies and visionaries among us foresee chaos and change. Whether that amounts to mere short-term inconvenience, massive destruction or something between those two extremes, only time will tell. |
Strengthening Our Intimate Connection With the Earth Is Key To Our SurvivalAt this quickening time of purification and transformation, Grandmother Earth's magnetic field is changing, her heart beat, i.e., her vibratory frequency, is speeding up and vibrating at a higher level. Her plant children are vibrating faster as a result. We are being challenged to wake up, accelerate into fast thought and action to keep up. Strengthening our intimate connection with the Earth is key to our survival. If we take decisive action to align our lifestyles with the Earth, and if we pay more attention to our intending, she will carry us along in the fast lane into a new state of being. Will we arrive at the new destination with her? Complacency vs. ResponsibilityMost apprentices and students in a spiritual path of heart, in this Sweet Medicine SunDance Path particularly, are aware of and profess to desire a closer connection to Nature and the Earth. We talk and teach about interconnectedness and alignment with Nature, Grandmother Earth and her children. We decry pollution in the waters and the air. We rail at the profit-motivated corporations that invest in the destruction of the rainforests. We express concern for the impact on future generations of nuclear waste storage. We donate dollars to organizations dedicated to solving these problems. We echo Thunder Strike's teachings about taking responsibility, assuming authority, and being spiritually accountable for ourselves and our actions. A lot of us talk a good talk, but don't walk a very good walk, including my household. We overconsume, we waste, we throw away. The hectic pace of our lives is like a voracious monster that demands speed and convenience. We are co-conspirators in the depletion of the Earth's resources and the contamination of our environments. Why? It's not because we don't care, but because many of us are asleep and don't know it. Putting our money where our mouth is and aligning right actions with our philosophies, is often inconvenient. On the other hand, some of us are just plain lazy. If you are one who truly practices the principles outlined in Jeff Hohensee's and Claudia Barner's articles that follow, if you practice the 4R's to the max, then you are a positive imagemaker. For those who are making attempts to create more sustainable lifestyles, keep up the good work; you are moving in the right direction. Continue to explore what more you can do in this regard. For those who haven't bothered or haven't given it much thought, it's time to wake up. Each of us may very well come back as one of the next seven generations. What will we inherit? - Editor
